In public, Mr. K is personable, witty, and confident. Only when he thinks he's alone does Mr. K allow himself to be nervous, paranoid, and grouchy. If he ever gets stressed out enough though, Mr. K's private personality traits will be displayed in public.
History:
In his youth, which wasn't really all that long ago, Mr. K was known to many people by his birth name... and he was also a member of Team Rocket. As a low-ranking/incompetent member of the organization, K was caught by the police more often than he is willing to admit. After a short stint in a reform school, K decided to legally change his name, and attempt to become a famous Pokémon trainer. The only vestige of his old life that he kept was a Meowth, which had undergone illegal/painful genetic experimentation in a secret Team Rocket Laboratory. Unlike most Meowths, this one can talk... and getting her to shut up is a real challenge. K and Ms. Meowth have an unusual relationship as trainers and Pokémon go: They fight like siblings, nag each other like an old married couple, and share their times of laughter and tears together as friends. K is almost ready to challenge a gym leader, but first, he needs to recruit/catch some more Pokémon... instead of stealing them.

"You shoulda did what I toldya ta do!" Ms. Meowth said in her distinctively sarcastic tone of voice. Pat had no idea where and how Ms. Meowth had picked up that cheesy Brooklyn accent, and he secretly wished that she would drop it. The only reason he didn't make this wish known to his companion/Pokémon is that Ms. Meowth would probably just replace the Brooklyn accent with an even worse/poorly annunciated accent. If he allowed the thought to stew, Pat Karashi could almost imagine how bad she would sound while trying out a Quebecquois-French accent, or even the eternally dreaded Aberdeen-Scottish accent.
"For the last time Emmy, I am not going to start gambling what little money we've got on private Pokémon duels! Just in case you've forgotten, there are very strict laws against that. I'd rather not end up in a jail cell. I've been there, I've done that, now I just want to live a good life, and try to make my dreams come true."
"One of your dreams is to be filthy-stinkin' rich... right?" Ms. Meowth replied. Pat allowed an annoyed groan to escape from his throat. But it was closely followed by a low chuckle.
"Yeah... it is. But I'd like to do it thru legitimate means." Pat then began to rub Ms. Meowth's belly, which was pretty much the only way to get her to drop the subject on anything. Due to the fact that she was too busy enjoying the belly rub, and purring.
